‘Life of the Party’ (Sulpher-Crested Cockatoo) by Kirstie Page

The perfect choice for my last painting in my series of Remember When Art cards, Australian Bird series simply had to be the sulpher-crested cockatoo. Why? It's because I think cockatoos are the ultimate party bird: noisy. Like to hang out in large flocks. Experts at flapping their wings and shaking their tail-feathers.

Out of curiosity I researched the deeper meaning behind this bird. Symbolically, seeing a cockatoo is a sign that miracles surround you or will soon be entering into your life. Isn’t that lovely? I don’t think we can ever have enough of those.

Butterflies represent hope (we need lots of this, together with reassurance at the moment). Oodles of eucalyptus leaves and gum blossoms feature, warding off negative energy.

Just like the cockatoo who reminds you something special is about to happen, I felt the same way finishing this series. As I gaze at all the colours and patterns and shapes, I can’t help but feel an inner sense of joy and celebration. I think it’s because it reminds me - no matter what - to make the most of any situation. Even if it’s just one squawk. One flap of my wings. One shake of my tail-feather at a time. I hope you feel the same way too.
