Down by the Creek

When I need to calm myself, when I need to be reminded of the beauty that surrounds us all, I like to visit the creek that runs near my home.

As I walk down the hill and across a little bridge, I see and hear the water flowing. Sometimes a trickle, sometimes an abundant flow, occasionally a roar. I feel myself becoming immersed in nature. I step gently, underneath a leafy canopy. Little lizards warm themselves on the path, scurrying out of the way as I approach and I hear the birds in the trees above. I smell the earth and reach out my hand to feel the gentle breeze through my fingers.

My little creek was sadly damaged in recent floods. But that doesn't stop me loving it. In fact it makes me love it more fiercely. Because I know that it will heal, it will recover. Perhaps it will be different but just as beautiful. It reminds me that through it all, life goes on...
